English Heritage had re-enactor events every weekend in summer 1998. The largest, in August at Kirby Hall attracted 25,000 spectators and involved over 2,000 re-enactors.

It has been a hard and bitterly fought quest with enormous personal sacrifice by soldiers and civilians. If our island's military history has anything to tell us, it is that the freedoms we have inherited must not be lightly given away.
