Recensione:
This book will have huge appeal to fans of comics old and young, and I know it will go down well in the school library (despite all my efforts the boys seem to prefer looking at pictures during their break times). Even die hard Marvel fans may find this an attractive addition to their collection, if only for its stunning portrayal of the art form, rather than the characters that are depicted within it. ..books 4 boys, August, 2010...a must-have book for any comic fan, artist, graphic illustrator, art and cultural historian....Sci-Fi Pulse, August, 2010...if you like comics - buy this book!!..alternative magazine, Sept 2010...Some have aged well and remain exciting or stylish, others now look unintentionally camp or even ridiculous. Even so, it's an inspiring guide to the rich heritage of DC Comics...Digital Arts maagzine, Aug 2010...An interesting collection for those with even the mildest interest in American comic books, but for hardcore collectors this is an essential purchase --Sci-Fi online, September, 2010....We ve had fights, reader, actual fights in the office about which comic publisher was better, Marvel or DC. Obviously these fights have been using our secret super powers and not in any way actually physical no journalists were harmed in the making of this review. Regardless of which camp you fall into (and trust us, camp is definitely the word in this particular case) this oversized poster book featuring the artwork of DC is gorgeous and a fantastic collection for fans of comics and pop art in general. As the title would suggest it s to celebrate 75 years of DC, so doesn t automatically focus on their leading characters Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman (although they are the focus of the cover). Instead the 100 ready-to-frame covers that are featured include the most incredible, most outrageous and most bizarre , with notes about the artist and title by Robert Schnakenberg on the reverse of each print. Our favourite and god bless whoever it was at Quirk books that had the sense of humour to choose this one is issue 55 of Superboy, which features the teen hero being spanked by his school principal. Hilariously Schnakenberg notes that a mere 20 issues later the same artist depicted Superboy once more being spanked on the cover. OK... Least said... Other classics include Falling In Love, Heart Throbs, Girls Love, Girls Romances and an issue of Lois Lane where s she s inexplicably turned into a black woman. No, really. Of course, it s not all camp hilarity, there are some classic and iconic covers presented the further you get into the book, including the legendary Batman: The Killing Joke, Watchmen and Sandman. Far, far too beautiful to actually tear up and frame when it should be sat on an expensive coffee table you ll just have to buy two copies. --Pink Paper, September, 2010.....Contained within the pages of this wonderful book are some of the most iconic and eccentric comic book covers from the past 75 years of DC comics, and seen in this context the wealth of imagination is truly stunning --hey u guys dot com, Sept, 2011...Read of the Month! What's the Story? everyone's heard of Superman but if it wasn't for entrepeneur major malcom Wheeler-Nicholson he wouldn't even exsist. The Major was the first to publish an original comic book way back before your grandad was born. The name DC Comics came form his third offering, detective Comics, form whos pages Batman first flew. The Man of Steel and Caped Crusader were soon regularly saving the world alongside Green Lantern, Captain Marvel, Wonder woman and a crew of equally awesome cronies. This book contains hundreds of DC's most famous Comic-Book covers, loads of behind-the-scenes facts about the series and classic posters. --Flipside magazine, October, 2010.....What a beautiful thing this book is, and the perfect commemorative publication for DC Comic's anniversary! -- --Sci-Fi Pulse, Sept, 2010

Admittedly the book has been around since last summer and so doesn t include the post-52 universe, but it s still a fantastic read. Written by Robert Schnakenberg it covers the complete history of DC s comics , dating back to 1935 and the debut issue of Fun magazine the first comic published by eventual DC founder Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson. Each cover features a glorious full page poster with a breakdown of the books significance on the back including information about the story, characters, writers and artists. There s everything in here from the first issue of Detective and Action Comics to the debuts of Batman, Superman and Green Lantern. One of the real highlights though is the pre-Comics Code books of the 1950s with obscure titles such as Mister District Attorney and Strange Adventures - a book which had a strange obsession with stories about scientifically altered gorillas! It s a brilliant visual history of DC s back catalogue serving as both an education for those who aren t big fans or a walk down memory lane for those who are. With the breakdown of different titles on the back it s a great way to remind fans that there is no such thing as a new idea and the notion of common images, themes and stories in comic books is not something new and is a key reason why companies have to keep re-inventing themselves --Pipedream Comics, 2012

America s biggest action comic factory, DC Comics, has offered its fans yet another kickass poster book that will walk you through the legendary 75 years of DC c heritage of Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Superman and many more. This 75th Anniversary Poster Book is an oversized edition with over 100 ready to frame covers. The sight of this alone makes me drool so you can imagine what happens when you actually get to hold this poster book. This one is made like a history book with each page telling you what issue that cover came from, when it came out and what artist drew it. It even gives the reader a brief insight into the background of the character drawn on the poster. These are obviously reprints and not original works, and are presented in tear-out, ready-to-frame format--New launches, October, 2010--I simply adore this book! It was love at first sight! The cover design cleverly focuses on the insignias (rather than the faces) of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, proving just how iconic their heroic symbols are. The oversized format provides a fantastic opportunity to admire this truly gorgeous artwork. It s evident the publisher labored over each cover to ensure the reproduction was sharp and the colors vivid. Did the book contain every one of my favorite DC covers? No, however, it had many of my favorites along with tons of excellent ones I wouldn t have thought to include. Finally, the commentary on the reverse of each poster is entertaining and informative. It really is a complete package. I highly recommend this book to any fan of DC Comics or comic-related posters. It s well worth the money --Once upon a geek, Oct, 2010-- a must-have book for any comic fan, artist, graphic illustrator, art and cultural historian.-- --Sci-Fi Pulse, Sept, 2010
