The Global Cary Collection is hereby presenting the only complete set on offer in North America of David Bailey's debut masterwork: "Box of Pin-Ups" produced in 1965 whilst still only 27 years of age & his 1st publication to boot!~ The "Swinging Sixties" scene was aptly reflected in this 'landmark' tour de force album, if you will, housing (36) poster-prints of 1960's celebrities & socialities including: Terence Stamp, The Beatles, Jean Shrimpton, P.J. Proby, Rudolph Nureyev, Andy Warhol in addition to, shall we say, less controversial characters such as Cecil Beaton & David Hicks, although notwithstanding the notorious East End gangsters, The Kray Twins!~ The "Box" was an unusual & unique commercial release and it reflected the changing status of the photographer 'DB' that one could market/ sell a collection of prints in this way!~ (The strong objection to the presence of The Krays on the part of fellow photographer Lord Snowdon was the major reason no American edition of the "Box" ever appeared, nor a British UK 2nd edition issued!)~ Furthermore, as originally priced at only three guineas, most copies were 'destroyed' as deemed discardable, certainly not then considered a 'collectors' set to be coveted for decades to come!~ Mind you, 'DB' was still then a 'fledgling' artist!~ Nevertheless, Bailey's ascent at British Vogue would prove to be "meteoric" after his having been initially 'contracted' by the magazine five years previously in 1960! Subsequently, months later, 'DB' was shooting 'covers' for the magazine and at the height of his productivity he shot (800) pages of editorial for Vogue in one year alone!~ Btw: The record sale for a copy of "Box of Pin-Ups" is reported as "north of £20,000"!~ Bespokely housed in the iconic 'card' clamshell box w/ Mick Jagger replete in a fur~lined hoodie age '22' on the cover!~ Thus a 'superb' value priced @ under $10K Usd!~ Ps: We've previously marketed/ sold portions of a partial/ incomplete set as individual 'framed' prints for $2K per image, successfully, we might add!~ Cheers!.
