Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Book shows a bit of shelfwear, with a faint wrinkle on first blank page. DJ slightly faded on spine and shows a bit of overall wear, with a closed tear in the middle of the back; looks nice in Brodart cover. Autographed by Faubus on first blank page. Memoir, told through a somewhat self-serving and revisionist selection of newspaper articles and cartoons from 1954-59, highlighted by the six-term Arkansas governor's decision to adopt a segregationist stance and block black children from attending public schools. A fascinating document of a polarizing figure and a turbulent time, and an uncommon title. 8-1/2 x 11-1/4". 510 pages. Signed by Author(s).

"To., a good friend and supporter, with best wishes, Orval Eugene Faubus" A personal journal of infantry combat in World War II. Orval Eugene Faubus (January 7, 1910 - December 14, 1994) was the 36th Governor of Arkansas, serving from 1955 to 1967. He is best known for his 1957 stand against the desegregation of Little Rock public schools during the Little Rock Crisis, in which he defied a unanimous decision of the United States Supreme Court by ordering the Arkansas National Guard to stop African American students from attending Little Rock Central High School. Despite his initial staunch segregationist stances, Faubus moderated his positions later in life. Laid in is the book review from the Arkansas Democrat, dated Sunday, Jan. 9, 1972. [Loc.: 002485].
