A compilation of two reports by John C. Fremont (1813-1890) and William H. Emory (1811-1887). The pamphlet begins with Fremont's writings, then continues with Emory's narrative. Fremont was an American explorer, politician, and the first Republican presidential nominee. Emory was an American surveyor and civil engineer who worked for the United States Army Corp of Topographical Engineers.
