Le Avventure di Pinocchio: Storia di un Burattino.
Descrizione libro: Florence Felice Paggi 1883, 1883. Small octavo. 236pp., + iipp. of advertisements. First edition. The enduring childrens classic about a mischievous marionette whose nose grows every time he tells a lie, in the original Italian and wonderfully illustrated with a full-page frontispiece of the titular character, as well as sixty-one additional woodcuts interspersed throughout the text. The first half of Pinocchio was originally published serially in the childrens magazine Giornale per i Bambini from 1881 to 1883, and it is thought that the story was not intended primarily as childrens literature, as it did not end happily: Pinocchio was hanged from a tree for his various moral failings. It was at the urging of his publisher that author Carlo Collodi (a pseudonym for Carlo Lorenzini) added the second half of the book, in which The Blue Fairy repeatedly comes to Pinocchios rescue, guiding him toward self-awareness and enabling his transformation from puppet to human. Popular in Italy at the time of its publication, the book and its author went on to gain international acclaim when the story was translated into English in 1892. Pinocchio is still cherished to this day and has been the subject of numerous adaptations, including popular versions by Disney and Steven Spielberg, who used the story as the basis for his 2001 film AI. This very rare first edition of the book only five copies have come up for auction in nearly twenty-five years is bound in quarter red calf and marbled boards by Devauchelle. Raised bands divide the spine into compartments, two of which bear the title and date in gilt. The endpapers are marbled. Housed in a clamshell box with marbled boards and red leather backing, title and decorations on spine in gilt. Some toning and light staining to the interior, a small closed tear to the margin of two pages, and several unobtrusive stamped and handwritten ownership signatures, otherwise a fine copy of this high spot of childrens literature. (Gottlieb/Pierpont Morgan Library 213; Osborne 2, p.1007). Codice libro della libreria 20920

THE STORY OF A PUPPET Or the Adventures of Pinocchio. Translated from Italian by M.A. Murray.
Descrizione libro: Fisher Unwin, 1892. First English edition. 12mo. White cloth lettered and decorated in blue. Page edges and endpapers in the same blue and white design as the boards. A near fine copy, light fading to the spine. Contemporary gift inscription on the verso free endpaper, dated "xmas 1891". Illustrated in line by C. Mazzanti. Originally published serially, "La storia di un burattino" (The story of a puppet) was published over several months of 1881 in the Giornale per i Bambini, a very popular Italian children's magazine. In the last of these pieces the subversive Pinocchio is hanged and dies, Collodi clearly tiring of his character and with no intent of resurrecting him. However, just as Conan Doyle was to do with Sherlock Holmes, public demand caused Collodi to continue the very popular story, so in 1882 he published piecemeal "Le avventure di Pinocchio". These two separate serialisations were published together in book form in Florence in 1883 with illustrations by Enrico Mazzanti, and then in English as part of the Children's Library Series in 1892. This edition is now uncommon and due to its notoriously fragile construction, particularly rare in nice condition. Codice libro della libreria 23838

Walt Disney's version of Pinocchio Based on the famous story by Collodi.
Descrizione libro: New York, Random House, 1939, 1939. Large quarto. Original spiral bound cloth boards, label printed in red to front cover. Despite being a ludicrously flimsy piece of book construction (presumably in whimsical imitation of inhouse Disney ring-bound project books), this copy has survived in outstanding condition. Facsimile typescript and storyboard, printed on one side of the leaf. One of 100 copies only of the original American edition, this copy a presentation to William ("Tex") Henson on the occasion of his 20th birthday in 1944, shortly after he joined Disney as an assistant animator. The front pastedown has the gift inscription "Best wishes to Bill Henson from [William S. Henson] June 1944 [20 Birthday]", the words in square brackets being added in another hand, presumably the recipient's, the first over an erasure. The front free endpaper is inscribed "Bill Henson, Walt Disney Productions 1944" in the presenter's hand; the limitation notice is further inscribed by fellow animators Fred Kopletz and George Owen. Henson worked on Disney's first post-war feature, Song of the South, and made a name for himself campaigning for the animated chipmunk duo, Chip 'n' Dale, to become regulars in the Disney repertory. He later moved to Mexico, supervising the studio of the animator Jay Ward, their best-known creation being the bulbous-nosed, dim-witted Bullwinkle the Moose. Codice libro della libreria 44640

However, the purpose of the trip to Okinawa then was not to take photos but for Shomei Tomatsu, Eikoe Hosoe, Masahisa Fukase, Nobuyoshi Araki, and myself who all lived in Tokyo then to conduct a photo workshop with 'Photo Taking' as the main theme for 10 plus photographers and photo lovers living in Okinawa. Each time I found some time in between the 5 day Okinawa workshop schedule, I took along the only camera, a half size, I brought with me and shot approximately 2,000 cuts. I didn't set any theme to work along but hopped from place to place like a bird feeds itself, allowing the towns I encountered for the first time to guide me along." Signed by Author. The New Mickey Mouse Club Book
Descrizione libro: New York, New York, U.S.A.: Grosset & Dunlap, 1977. Soft cover. Condizione libro: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 64 pages, fully illustrated with black & white photos and drawings. A history of the original Mickey mouse Club with an introduction to the "New Mickey Mouse Club and the new Mouseketeers. "In the 1970s, Walt Disney Productions revived the concept but modernized the show cosmetically, with a disco re-recording of the theme song and a more ethnically diverse group of young cast members. The sets were brightly colored and more simplistic than the detailed black and white artwork of the original. Like the original, nearly each day's episode included a vintage cartoon, though usually color ones from the late 1930s and onward. Serials were usually old Disney movies, cut into segments for twice-weekly inclusion. Movies included Third Man on the Mountain, The Misadventures of Merlin Jones and its sequel The Monkey's Uncle (both starring Tommy Kirk), Emil and the Detectives (retitled The Three Skrinks), Tonka (retitled A Horse Called Comanche), The Horse Without a Head (about a toy horse), and Toby Tyler (starring Kevin Corcoran). In addition, one original serial was produced, The Mystery of Rustler's Cave, starring Kim Richards and Robbie Rist. Theme days were: Monday: Who, What, Why, Where, When and How Tuesday: Let's Go Wednesday: Surprise Thursday: Discovery Friday: Showtime (at Disneyland, with performers usually at Plaza Gardens)" In Near Fine condition with a square tight spine and binding. Clean and bright both inside and out. One of the rarest Disney books to have come out of the 1970`s, and would make an excellent addition to any Disney collection. From the publisher: "This catalogue raisonné marks the first comprehensive exhibition of photographs by Jim Dine. Since 1996, the internationally acclaimed artist has used cameras and lenses to make images that he has turned into prints using heliogravure and digital ink-jet processes, as well as conventional color and black and white photographic printing. Combining his zest for image making with a long devotion to self-expressive materiality, Dine imbues his photographs with an intensity that is occasionally traumatic but invariably beautiful. Dine's photographs present a familiar repertory of images: tools, hearts and a torso of Venus, as well as the more recent iconography of a crow, a skull, a Pinocchio doll, and an odd-couple ape and cat. For Dine photography is one among other media, the camera but one of many tools with which to make pictures. This refusal to privilege one method over another helps explain how, in the space of only six or seven years, he has managed to produce such a large number of haunting photographic images that remain consistent with the tenor of his art as a whole, while expanding its technical repertoire and range of possibilities."
