Signed and dedicated by Lise Hirtz to Jane de Margerie. RARE. Miro created one of the most imaginative books for children and far beyond its time. Joan Mirà  was studying art in Barcelona and moved to Paris in 1919, He was introduced to a surrealists group in 1924 by his neighbor Andre Masson, who shared his studio. He found among these artists the inspiration necessary for his work. But it was his humor that dominated his creations, especially the black humor of the surrealists. In August 1927 Paul Eluard sent Miro the poems by Lisa Hirtz (born Ann - Marie Meyer), a friend of Breton. She was married to Paul Deharme (1898-1934), one of the pioneers of Radio France. In October 1927 Mirà  completed the gouaches, a part of which would be executed for the 8 plates of this book. Jeanne Bucher (1872-1946) completed the book in 1928. The artistic involvement of the editor was an integral part of the work of preserving the creation of the avant-garde. Lisa Hirtz published Une Petite Pie in Pierre Chareau's gallery, where she had opened her bookstore in 1925. Her interest in children's books was inspired by her grandson, Pierre. Eight gouaches were executed by Miro for the colored plates which were then colored by the pochoir process by Saudà  . Edition is limited to 300 copies. On Arches. Otto Lange (illustratore). 1910? Watercolor. Double watercolor on the recto and the verso. In blue tones in a traditional style. Verso: Expressionist Mountain Landscape on one side and a more traditional landscape on the other that includes a lonely figure. Beautiful sensitive image. Signed lower right. Image: 13 à ¾ x 21. Please request photos. This is an original watercolor not a book. After an apprenticeship as a decorator, he became a pupil of the Kunstgewerbeschule in Dresden and then studied at the Otto Gussmann Academy of art. From 1919 he lived in Dresden, where, alongside Otto Dix, Conrad Felixmueller, Otto Schubert and Lasar Segall, he co-founded the Dresdner Sezession group, a short-lived collaboration of German Expressionism. The works of this new generation of disillusioned artists placed a much greater emphasis on political and social reformation through pacifistic means, rather than adopting the nihilistic social criticism and cynicism of their Die Brà ¼cke predecessors. Original marbled calf binding. There are 16 single and double page engraved illustrations including the title page. Landwehr, R. de Hooghe, 80; Vinet 752, Hoefer 147, Landwehr, Splendid Ceremonies, 147. Ex Library. The account of the arrival of King William III and the reception in the Hague gives the impression that the author's text closely followed the illustrations by de Hooghe. (Landwehr). All of the bibliographies concur that this work is one of the chefs d'oeuvre of de Hooghe. "One of his best books" (Hofer, Baroque Book illustration, 47) and is concurred by Didot, 951. This book represents a height of festivities begun by the Italians at Mantua more than a century before in the triumphant new era which began with the abdication of James II in favor of William of Orange. After the Battle of the Boyne William traveled to Holland to seek the safety of an alliance against the French and this book celebrates that visit. The Dutch text was issued in 1691, a French text in 1692. In this French edition the plates were printed at the same time as the Dutch therefore they are first state. A very fine copy with beautiful impressions of all the plates in the original calf binding. One of the most beautiful Dutch baroque festival books, superbly illustrated with 15 plates by Romeyn de Hooghe, the great chronicler of his age. The frontispiece was commissioned for this reception. Romeyn de Hooghe (Amsterdam 1645â Â"1708 Haarlem) produced a world of art in many forms, including paintings, sculpture, medallic art, and temporary decorations for royal events. Above all, however, De Hooghe is known for his etchings, and he completed a staggering four thousandâ Â"plus plates in his lifetime. Active at a time when the smallâ Â"but wealthy and powerfulâ Â"Dutch Republic was engaged in a host of interactions, warlike and otherwise, with its European neighbors and far-flung colonial interests, This edition, after the Dutch edition, has the introduction of Jean Tronchin de Breuil. There are unnoticeable water contractions on the verso of some of the illustrations not affecting the image. Could have been the expert removal of a collector's stamp.

Original marbled boards. Condizione sovraccoperta: None. de Hooghe and Bidloo (illustratore). 1st French. The Hague., Chez Arnout Leers., 1692. Folio. Original marbled calf binding. There are 16 single and double page engraved illustrations including the title page. Landwehr, R. de Hooghe, 80; Vinet 752, Hoefer 147, Landwehr, Splendid Ceremonies, 147. This edition, after the Dutch edition, has the introduction of Jean Tronchin de Breuil. There are unnoticeable water contractions on the verso of some of the illustrations not affecting the image. Could have been the expert removal of a collector's stamp.

A four color embossed (Gypsograph) lithograph. 10 1/4 x 15 9/16, margins: 16 à ¾ x 23 à ½. Signed and numbered by Charpentier. Printed by Eugene Verneau. With the Blind stamp of L'estampe Originale. Stein and Karshan 14. Slightly mat burned in the margins but colors are excellent as original. One of the most important artists, together with Pierre Roche to use gypsography in the 1890s. The process involves using plaster moulds and hand-colored damp paper to create the image after which ink is applied directly to the mould, as with a wood-engraving. Later, he replaced the plaster moulds with metal to achieve more detail in the relief. He used the method in book form for the first time here. The effect is one of medals set within the typographic layout.
