Condizione: MOLTO BUONO. Biblioteca Adelphi,451. Milano, Adelphi cm.14x21, pp.530, brossura copertina figurata a colori. Coll. Biblioteca Adelphi,451. brossura copertina figurata a colori.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Omeros by Derek Walcott, Hardcover, First English Edition (1990), with Newspaper Articles. Book in very good condition, in a similar unclipped dust jacket. The book and dust jacket have slight bumping to the top of the spine. The book also has ageing to the top of the page edges. Overall a very good, tight copy of this book. (See pictures). Included inside the front cover are newspaper articles relating to the author, Derek Walcott, being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1992. The author was also awarded the Queen's Medal for Poetry in 1988. Omeros is the Greek name for Homer. It was described at the time as Derek Walcott's stunning new poem, it being his longest and most ambitious work to date.

Paperback reprint. 325 pages. Inscribed by Walcott to the front endpaper: "To David and Mary Derek B/ham. May 91". The recipients were the author David Lodge and his wife, Mary. Loosely inserted is a ticket stub to see Walcott in Birmingham in May 1991 where the signing presumably took place. Lodge and Walcott were contemporaries and attended the same literary conferences but there is no indication in the former's memoirs that the two were more than passing acquaintances. The book is firmly bound in lightly marked and creased paper covers. The text block is slightly marked and age toned. A well provenanced inscribed early printing of the award-winning epic poem which is widely regarded as Walcott's masterpiece.

First edition of the Nobel Prize-winning authorâ s masterpiece. Octavo, original cloth. Presentation copy, warmly inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Dagmar thanks for a wonderbar evening in der kneipe Derek." Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket painting by Derek Walcott. Jacket design by Cynthia Krupat. Author photograph by Sigrid Nama. Uncommon signed and inscribed. Omeros is an epic poem based on Homer and Odysseus. The title, which is Homer's name in Greek, nods to the wandering and exile of the great poet himself, who learned and suffered while traveling. "No poet rivals Mr. Walcott in humor, emotional depth, lavish inventiveness in language, or the ability to express the thoughts of his characters and compel the reader to follow the swift mutations of ideas and images in their minds. This wonderful story moves in a spiral, replicating human thought, and in the end, surprisingly, it makes us realize that history, all of it, belongs to us" (Mary Lefkowitz, The New York Times Book Review).

A wonderful connection linking these two Caribbean born writers who went on to win the Nobel Prize in literature. Omeros is an epic poem based on Homer and Odysseus.
