Volume 50 in the Agatha Christie Collection (1951) Limited edition of 1000 copies worldwide
Baghdad is the chosen location for a secret superpower summit. Unfortunately the word is out, and an underground organisation in the Middle East is plotting to sabotage the talks.
Into this explosive situation skips Victoria Jones, a girl with a yearning for adventure who gets more than she bargains for when a wounded agent dies in her hotel room. Now, if only she could make sense of his final words: ‘... Lucifer... Basrah... Lefarge... ’

‘A very human heroine, whose powers of invention, like those of her creator, never fail her’
Times Literary Supplement
‘All in all, the most satisfactory novel in some years from one of the most satisfying of novelists.’
New York Times
‘The action is rapid and profuse, the characters are astonishingly real, and the author’s style remains far more lucid and persuasive than that employed by the vast majority of her colleagues. Altogether one of the year’s most agreeable contributions to the spy-and-counterspy diversion’
New Yorker
Agatha Christie was born in Torquay in 1890 and became, quite simply, the best-selling novelist in history. Her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, written towards the end of the First World War, introduced us to Hercule Poirot, who was to become the most popular detective in crime fiction since Sherlock Holmes. She is known throughout the world as the Queen of Crime. Her books have sold over a billion copies in the English language and another billion in over 100 foreign languages. She is the author of 80 crime novels and short story collections, 19 plays, and six novels under the name of Mary Westmacott.
