9780007433421: Mousetrap and Seven Other Plays

For the first time in a single combined B format, a new edition of Agatha Christie's eight stage plays, published to coincide with the 60th Anniversary Year of The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in history. THE MOUSETRAP, the longest-running play in the history of London's West End, begins its 60th Year run on 25 November 2011. This new edition of eight works show how Agatha Christie's plays are as compulsive as her novels, their colourful characters and ingenious plots providing yet more evidence of her mastery of the detective thriller. THE MOUSETRAP: Cut off by snowdrifts, the owners of a new guest house encounter terror when one of their first visitors turns out to be a homicidal maniac...AND THEN THERE WERE NONE: Ten guilty people are lured to an island mansion where an unknown killer begins to exact revenge...APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH: The suffocating heat of an exotic Middle-Eastern setting provides a backdrop for murder...THE HOLLOW: Beneath their respectable surface, a set of friends realize that any one of them could be a murderer...WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION: A scheming wife testifies against her husband in a shocking murder trial...TOWARDS ZERO: A psychopathic killer stalks unsuspecting victims in a seaside house perched high on a cliff...VERDICT: Passion and love are the deadly ingredients in this thriller in which a murder causes an unexpected chain of events...GO BACK FOR MURDER: A young woman discovers that her late mother was imprisoned for murdering her father and is determined to prove her innocence...

About the Author:

Agatha Christie was born in Torquay in 1890 and became, quite simply, the best-selling novelist in history. Her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, written towards the end of the First World War, introduced us to Hercule Poirot, who was to become the most popular detective in crime fiction since Sherlock Holmes. She is known throughout the world as the Queen of Crime. Her books have sold over a billion copies in the English language and another billion in over 100 foreign languages. She is the author of 80 crime novels and short story collections, 20 plays, and six novels under the name of Mary Westmacott.

Review:

"...The most skillfully written murder mysteries ever produced." -- The New York Times

"A truly entertaining classic thriller." -- Sunday Times

"Deservedly a classic among murder thrillers." -- The Observer

"The cleverest murder mystery of the British theater." -- The Daily Telegraph

"Unfailingly ingenious." -- The London Times
