Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. 2nd Edition. 290 pp., xiii. First edition paperback published in 1974; this copy, Second Edition, first published in 1979; '4' in number line. Glossy wrappers with two black and white photo-illustrations on full front cover, with title lettering superimposed in large orange letters in a column down right two-thirds front cover; author name lettering in smaller orange letters across bottom front cover. Edges have tiny, light foxing freckles; a 1/4" closed tear with small wrinkle from nick to lower edge at 1" to left of bottom right rear cover corner, which echoes back three pages into the Index (NO impact on text); a 3 1/2" vertical red line in the margin of the author's "Preface to the Second Edition", drawing attention to the author's acknowledgment of a criticism received of the First Edition and response to that; previous owner's ink hand-stamp on title page, that of distinguished scholar, Jennifer L. Hochschild, Professor of Government and Professor of African and African American Studies at Harvard University. Book describes much worse than it is: Tight binding (NO cracks); sharp corners (NO bumps or curls); NO remainder marks. Except for single vertical line in margin of a page in the Preface to the Second Edition, cited above, Clean Text.
