Placing manager "types" into real-world categories--from the Bully, Scientist, and Star to the Geek, Parent, and Con Artist--it provides everything you need to make your work life more satisfying and productive. Managing Your Manager gives you the tools to:

  • Categorize your boss based on telling traits
  • Create a solid working relationship
  • Avoid common pitfalls associated with certain types
  • Become a strong leader based on lessons learned from various bosses

From the Author:

As an HR professional I met, interviewed and worked with many different types of Bosses. One day facing a tough, unfair and rough situation the question came to my mind , "why not to tell the story"" why not sharing with other people my learnings" ?An other day somebody a bit stressed and desperate shared with me the problem she had dealing with her Boss. Finally I was assigned abroad for one year with limited time spent back home, that was the opportunity and I started to put all of this down on paper, nights and week ends. Here it is, I learned working under the Bully's pushy attitude, I enjoyed working with the Star, I painfully survived the "Navel's ego" and dreamed about the 7th Leader who I met in few occasions.I wanted to share and help people to "enjoy the ride" with any type of Boss except... the "little tyrant"

From the Inside Flap:

*The Bully--aggressive, command-and-control type; can deliver great results, but can also take bad risks and be a tough person to work for.
*The Good--consistent, calm, communicative, but has problem with risk or anything that upsets the applecart.
*The Kaleidoscope--shifting persona designed to accumulate and consolidate power; extremely bright and business savvy, but also difficult to get to know the real person and easy to resent controlling personality.
*The Star--high-energy, dramatic and action-oriented, but has little patience with red tape or anything that requires patience; impulsiveness can get the group in trouble.
*The Scientist--highly logical and reliant on a theory of the case, open to feedback; but they also can stubbornly stick to a theory beyond all reason; can also be distracted and difficult to communicate with in this state.
*The Navel--big ego in need of constant feeding; this ego can drive group to decide and execute with speed and skill; can also drive people to distraction as this boss makes everything about him.
Six Profiles, six core chapters designed along the same format: traits, how to deal with them and a "secret strategy".
