Descrizione libro Pergamon Press, New York, 1958. Hardcover. Condizione libro: Very Good Plus. First Edition. Blue cloth-covered boards with mild shelfwear, and a bit of shelf-rubbing to spinecaps. Previous owner's stamped name, overlaid with felt marker, to top and bottom edges. Privately-owned. Unmarked. Tight, clean copy. Cerenkov(or Cherenkov) radiation results when a charged particle (eg., an electron) travesl through an electrically polarizable medium at a speed which exceeds that which light would normally move in that same medium, resulting in displacement of the (traveling) atoms, and the disruption/polarization of the ambient electromagnetic field.Jelley's book introduces the concept, provides historical background (back to Cerenkov's original experiments), theoretically interprets the historical and ancillary data and discusses specific applications of and extensions to those theorems. The author goes on to cover later experimental work (artificially-accelerated particles, cosmic-ray particiles, radioactive sources, microwaves, etc), Cerenkov Detectors, Optical Considerations, Practical Counters, and Cerenkov radiation in the atmosphere. Appendices include constants and numerical data; graphical data, list of references, name and subject indices. Codice libro della libreria 66622
