Written by a respected scholar in the field, this authoritative and very accessible text offers students a contemporary introduction to Social Problems by introducing the major trends and future outlook for each social problem. Social policies devised to address social problems--and their consequences--are examined in depth by presenting the key research conducted to examine, explain and alleviate today's social problems. The text takes the discussion of social problems one step further by looking at each problem from a global perspective and "big picture" view.

“Qualitatively, I have always given the book a high pass mark and that’s one of the many reasons why I have hung on to it for several years. The topics are appropriate and well covered.”
-Dr. Theodore Ekechukwu, Northwest Arkansas Community College
“A student can grasp the sociology of social problems without understanding social structure because of the way chapters are written in this book. The relevance of a subject is clearly established, key ideas explained, sociological research presented and the information is accessible.”
-Kelly James, Winthrop University
“The authors’ style is very good. The information is presented in a way that the students can feel that they are studying current events and that the textbook is summarizing all of the facts into chapters.”
-George Glann Jr., Fayetteville Technical Community College
“I am so far satisfied with the materials the text covers. They are well written with students in mind. The sociological perspectives in this book are so informative to those of my students who never had sociology before taking this class. The English is simple and comprehensible to an average student.”
-Dr. Theodore Ekechukwu, Northwest Arkansas Community College
“The authors give an overall balanced view of each social problem discussed.”
-Dale Howard, North West Arkansas Community College
“This text covered all the necessary topics for a Social Problems class.”
-Bobbie Brannon, Catawba Valley Community College
“My impression is that Kornblum’s text is the most readable text that I have ever read or chosen to teach. The main reason that I use your text is because it is so well written.”
-Greg Olsen, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
