After his mother's funeral, Eddie wanders round the cemetery and finds the headstone of his boyhood friend Jeffrey Jones, or Jet as he was called after they had both seen 'Rock Around the Clock' and were the proud owners of their first Teddy Boy suits. As lads they lived and breathed Elvis Presley. Eddie, now middle-aged, out of work and out of condition, cannot stop thinking about his wild youth with Jet and the bizarre events which led up to his premature death. On the spur of the moment, Eddie blows his redundancy money on a 1955 crimson Cadillac, abandons his wife and, with 'Blue Suede Shoes' turned to full volume on the tape-deck, sets out on a voyage northwards to the only place where Elvis himself once touched British soil.
