This autobiography is of an Italian woman whose life is driven by love of Africa, its wildlife and death. The prologue covers a string of deaths which shaped her life - a woman friend died in a car crash and the widower, a father of two daughters, eventually married her. She also had a son by a marriage which ended. The family went to Kenya and bought a large estate. Paulo died in another car crash, having fathered a posthumously-born daughter. Kuki's son died at 17, bitten by one of his puff-adders (he had a snake-pit in the garden), and was buried alongside his father. Kuki had a couple of affairs - one with a married white planter, another with a film stuntman who involved her in "Out of Africa". Finally, she set up a foundation - in effect a private wildlife park.
