Samuel Hynes is Woodrow Wilson Professor of Literature Emeritus at Princeton University. He is the author of the highly praised memoir Flights of Passage, about his wartime experiences as a Marine Corps pilot, and The SoldiersÂ’ Tale, which was the recipient of a Robert F. Kennedy Award. Hynes is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
