This is a useful collection of 33 pieces of varying styles and character . . . As with all Oxford publications, the quality of production is superb. The music is well annotated, with editorial markings in brackets. Heavyweight paper ensures the book will last for many years. Altogether, for many organists this is a collection that will be used and reused for many years. It contains a wealth of new compositions, useful arrangments, and old favourites. It contains some challenges for the organist, but also has pieces that could be read at sight. A highly recommended investment. (Organo Pleno (was Victorian Organ Journal), April 99)

Robert Gower has made a useful compilation of thirty one pieces, most of which are familiar but with just enough new or unusual ones to make the collection worth the additional investment . . . Following a teaching career as Director of Music at Radley College, Oxfordshire and Glenalmond College, Perthshire, Robert Gower is currently Organist of St Barnabas Cathedral, Nottingham. His commitment to English twentieth-century composition is reflected through his founding and leadership of the Percy Whitlock Trust until its copyright income ceased, and in his Chairmanship of the Gerald Finzi Charitable Trust. In addition to editorship of OUP's Finzi and Walton organ albums, he is the compiler of Oxford organ collections of both seasonal and teaching repertoire.
