Margaret Hillyard Little is both an anti-poverty activist and an academic. She has been active in the anti-poverty movement for more than a decade. Currently, she teaches Women's Studies and Political Studies at Queen's University.

The writer is an anti-poverty campaigner, whose work experience at Bridge House in Kingston, Ontario (circa 1983), focused her thinking and resulted in these 293 pages. TEXT proper ends at page 190 - the remainder is Appendix, Notes, Biblio, and INDEX. Charts of statistical data and a few b/w photos assist text. The premise of the book is to look at the self-censorship induced by some social policies such as Ontario Mother's Allowance and its real role in the economy of the poor. Learn more about : National Council of Women, Children's Aid Society of Toronto, cohabiting, Ruth Mott, Chandra Pala, 120 Hour Rule, and March Against Poverty. Cond ; Paper wrapper is black with white lettering. Front cover graphic is a photo mosaic of 3 photographs of mothers and their children. Very light wear at some edges. Spine fine, colours bright, binding tight. No names ,creases, nor tears. FIRST 14 pages of introduction are high-lighted but then the enthusiasm ran out. Excellent reference !! Minimal soiling.
