Descrizione libro Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1982. Cloth. Condizione libro: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. First British Edition. This unique copy of a complex and fascinating study of British Policy in turbulent postwar Greece is inscribed by the author to the family of Sir Reginald Leeper. Sir Reginald was British Ambassador to Greece from 1943-46 and was a central figure in the political drama, decribed in the book. He is the subject of a fascinating accompanying letter of Christmas Greetings from the author to Lady Leeper in which Alexander describes at length his dramatic shift in attitude to Sir Reginald Leeper from one of marked criticism to admiration. Finally he conceived the earnest wish to vindicate Sir Reginald "to those who had maligned him, no matter how many their numbers, or how much their emnity." The letter also refers to an extensive review of the author's book in 'The New York Review' by C.M.Woodhouse, a photocopy cutting of which was tucked into this inscribed copy. The inscription on the flyleaf reads:"To the Leeper family - a great episode in your history - George Alexander 1/1/83 New York." The letter itself dated 01/12/84 is addressed to: "Lady Leeper & Lovely Family" and concludes:"Now let us ponder what great wisdom caused our lives to cross, Leeper & Alexander! It has been & always will be, a grand & fulfilling experience for me. Merry Christmas." The book is bound in blue cloth will silver lettering on spine and pale blue endpapers. It comprises 299 pages including extensive notes and index. The covers are generally a little marked and scuffed and there are two small brown stains on the foredge (perhaps caused by tea or coffee!) The larger of the two stains, which extends vertically under half-an-inch , is also visible on the edge of the outer margin of 50 pages or so at the beginning of the book; the second stain is not as marked but is horizontal and extends from page 160 or so until the end of the book. It is barely visible on the outer page margin, but can be seen on the outer edge of the back endpaper. Otherwise the book is sound and the text clean. The non price-clipped maroon dust-jacket is a bit scuffed and edge-worn and has a small vertical tear at the top of the spine. The wrapper has also lost colour on the spine, which now appears darker than the front and rear panels, although the white titling on the spine remains clear. It is protected by a clear conservation sleeve. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Signed by Author. Codice libro della libreria 001034
