The assessment and management of refractory patients with mood disorders is a major clinical challenge for mental health providers. Part of the Oxford Psychiatry Library (OPL) series, this pocketbook provides a concise view of the current definitions, assessment and evidence-based management of treatment-resistant mood disorders and reviews novel therapeutic targets for mood disorders, which may enhance the therapeutic armamentarium of clinicians in the near future. Review:

"Although small, this book provides a wealth of information about an extremely important area that is frequently misunderstood and undertreated. The scope of this problem is vastly underestimated and underappreciated and individuals are frequently inadequately treated. Because this is a pocket book, it reviews issues in broad strokes, but it is well referenced to guide readers to more detailed information on all of these topics. This is one of few books that review treatment-resistant depression and bipolar disorder together, elucidating the problems in our current treatment approaches and ways in which to address them. It is a useful read for all psychiatrists, but is a must read for all psychiatric residents." --Doody's
