Lipoproteins play an important role in maintaining the normal distribution of lipids in the body and in the transport of lipophilic comounds. They are also implicated, however, in some of the major diseases of the Western world including atherosclerosis, heart disease, and stroke, which has led to a dramatic proliferation of lipoprotein research. The focus of this volume is on the analysis of the biological activity of lipoproteins. It contains a selection of chapters which provide detailed protocols for preparing and separating different lipoproteins, followed by methods for studying their metabolism, activity in different tissues and interactions with receptors. This work is designed to serve as a useful manual for biomedical scientists studying these compounds including those interested in their role in diseases of the circulatory system.
