She was so lovely in all her actions, that no one ever had occasion to find fault with her; and when she spoke, so gentle was her voice, and so musical were her words, that 6he was called by all her friends, "Little Silverstring." When Little Silverstring was old enough to go to school, she found she was no stranger; for all her school-fellows had heard in some way or other of her gentle manners and lovely behaviour, and the sweet music which was always heard whenever she spoke or was called by name. Soon as she went into the school-door, just before the lessons commenced, some of the little girls said, "There is Silverstring!" and as they spoke her name they all became still, and looked at the lovely girl. When she took the place her teacher gave her, and the school was quiet, there seemed to be no more of the rough noise and confusion, but a low musical sound of busy learners was all that could be heard. The teacher said that she had never had so happy a day in school before, and she believed it was all because Silverstring was there. One day she was going home from school when she saw several little girls and boys talking very loud and pushing each other very rudely. She went up to them, and as she came near, they all stopped still and looked at her; for when angry people saw Little Silverstring they could not keep angry, but all their passion and strife went away, and left their hearts in love and peace. Silverstring spoke to them, and the delightful sound of the Eolian fell upon their ears, under the shady trees by the flowery wayside, and the angry eye became mild, and the loud voice of the quarrelers was hushed, and the song of peace was sung before Silverstring went on her way.
