He adopted a little different class of subjects, and represented travelers halting at inns, village scenes with animated figures, etc., and imitated Adrian in many ways. Born at Rotterdam, about 1632; died at Haarlem (?), 1681 (?). Genre painter. Formed himself under the influence of Karel Fabritius and Rembrandt. Worked at Delft, where he entered the Guild in 1655, perhaps also at Haarlem. One of the most original artists of the Dutch School. He painted court-yard scenes and interiors with figures; in the latter he usually represented two rooms, one of which was flooded with sunlight; in these effects he is unequaled. 338. Dutch Interior. On panel, 26 x 21. Willaerts, Adam. Born at Antwerp, 1577; died at Utrecht before 1662. Dutch School; landscape, marine and genre painter, especially of coast and harbor scenes, enlivened with numerous characteristic figures; also burning ships, houses and village markets and festive scenes.
