Among the many distinguished men with whom Mitchell's eventful life brought him into intimacy and friendship, and whose letters are found among his papers, there are none to whom a greater interest attaches than the two Keiths, George Keith, Earl Marischal of Scotland, and Field-Marshal James Keith.
