Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which Thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when He shall come again in His glorious Majesty to judge both the quick and dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through Him who liveth.and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, now and ever. Amen. Quest. What do you mean by " Almighty?" Ans. I mean, that God can do all things. Quest. What do you mean by " grace 1" Ans. Divine favour and assistance. Quest. What are " works of darkness?" Ans. All wicked and sinful practices. Quest. How are they to be " cast away?" Ans. To be left off. B Quest. What is " the armour of light?" Ans. The same as " the armour of God" described by St. Paul, Ephes. vi. 13--17. Quest. What do you mean by " now in the time of this mortal life?" Ans. "Now" is the time of Advent, when we should thus prepare. Quest. What does the word "Advent" mean? Ans. Coming; that is to say, the coming of Christ. Quest. What do you mean by " this mortal life 1" Ans. Our present state, liable to death. Quest. Did Jesus Christ come into this world in "mortal" nature, that is, liable to death? Ans. Yes; "that through death He might destroy him that hath the power of death, that is, the Devil." Heb. ii. 14. Quest. Was it " great humility" in Him to do so? Ans. Yes; "being in the form of God, He thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant." Phil. ii. 6, 7. Quest.
