The provision of transnational and global common goods is increasingly important as a result of economic globalization and of technological developments. In this book international financial markets and international environmental problems are analyzed as typical examples of transnational common goods. The book deals with the factors affecting the strategic constellations in common goods provision, and in particular the strategic effects of the multi-level governance structure. The book is innovative in two respects. First, it applies public good theory to large-scale real world problems. Second, it introduces a systematic approach to the analysis of multi-level governance structures and their role in international common goods provision.

L'autore

Katharina Holzinger is Chair of International Relations and Conflict Management at the University of Konstanz since 2007. She studied political science, German studies and philosophy of science at the University of Munich and received her PhD from University of Augsburg in 1993. She was a research associate at the Social Science Research Center in Berlin (WZB) and at the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods in Bonn, before she became Chair of Government at Hamburg University in 2004. Her main research interests include Rational choice theory, the European Union, transnational public goods, conflict resolution, and environmental policy. Among others, she has published in Public Administration, Political Communication, Rationality and Society, European Union Politics, European Journal of International Relations, European Journal of Political Science. Her most recent volume is “Environmental Policy Convergence in Europe”, 2008 (together with Christoph Knill and Bas Arts).
