No one could mistake Gobbolino for a simple kitchen cat, with his sparky whiskers and magic tricks, but that's just what the witch's kitten wants to be. Instead of learning how to turn mice into toads for the witch's brew, Gobbolino sets out on an adventure to find a family and a home of his own. Reissued for its 70th anniversary, this classic tale has been loved by generations of children.

Ursula Moray Williams was born in Hampshire in 1911 and wrote nearly 70 books for children, several of which she illustrated herself. Her other popular titles include Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse , which was named as one of Time Magazine's Books of the Year in 1938. Catherine Rayner studied illustration at Edinburgh College of Art. She fell in love with the city and still lives there with a small menagerie of creatures including Shannon the horse, Ena the cat and a goldfish called Sheila, all of whom inspire her artwork. In 2008 Catherine was selected as one of the Ten Best New Illustrators for Booktrust's Big Picture Campaign and won the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal in 2009 for HARRIS FINDS HIS FEET (Little Tiger Press). From AudioFile:
Poor Gobbolino! His mother was Graymalkin, the famous witch's cat, so naturally he's expected to be one, too. But he's different. Instead of green eyes, his are bright blue; instead of a jet black coat, his is tabby with one white boot; instead of being bad, he wants people to love him. In fact, he really wants only to sit by the fire, catch mice, watch the baby and be a kitchen cat. Nigel Lambert creates wild voices for each of the characters Gobbolino meets on his adventures, from the giddy and giggling, to the nasty and hissing. He breathes fresh life into a wonderful, old tale. P.E.F. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
