Gilt titles spine. 23.2 x 15.3cm. 287 pages. b/w photos. Saturday 11th August 1979. 303 sailing boats with 2,700 people on board set off in ideal conditions from Cowes, Isle of Wight, for the biennial Fastnet yacht race. 72 hours later, 15 sailors had drowned, several boats sunk, more than 20 had been abandoned and a huge air-sea rescue was under way. John Rousmaniere who sailed in the race, tells the story and deeds of heroism by the Navy, RAF, Lifeboat, other ships, fishing vessels and by the yachtsmen themselves. Some amazing photos. To add to the interest of the book, this was Peter Du Cane's own copy. Signed in blue pen o/p dated 1980 with an impressed address stamp in the top right corner. Commander Du Cane was an author, sailor, MD and Chair of Vospers - builders of high speed naval crafts + Bluebird II. I have a number of books from the estate. Condition: DJ scuffed on top and bottom of spine. Edges slightly dusty, grubby, should wipe off. Boards slight sunning front bottom edge. Slight white mark top right corner, otherwise good colour and condition. Internally clean, little wear, tight binding, good colour. Good + condition. Codice articolo 003219
