Excerpt from Memoirs of Rev. John Blackader: Compiled Chiefly From Unpublished Manuscripts, and Memoirs of His Life and Ministry Written by Himself While Prisoner on the Bass

The Mmoms here presented to the public, were originally intended merely as an article to a Periodical Miscellany. But from the discovery of various materials, of which I was then unap prised, they appeared to me to be not altogether unworthy the distinction of a separate volume. Whether the result may justify my anticipations, it is for others to determine. Writers naturally magnify to themselves the importance of their subject. They are too inclinable to appreciate with self partiality, as, in general, they measure the value of their production by the labour of their researches.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book tells the true story of Reverend John Blackader, a Presbyterian minister in Scotland during the tumultuous 17th century. Born into an ancient and wealthy family with a proud military history, Blackader himself chose a life of faith and became a staunch advocate for religious freedom. Persecuted for his beliefs, he was subjected to imprisonment and torture on the Bass Rock, a notorious island prison in the Firth of Forth. Despite these hardships, Blackader's faith never wavered, and he emerged from his ordeal as a symbol of the strength of the human spirit. Drawing on primary sources including Blackader's own writings and family records, the author provides a rich and detailed account of his life and times, shedding light on the religious and political struggles that shaped Scotland during this period. Through Blackader's story, this book offers a powerful exploration of the enduring power of faith in the face of adversity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
