Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book tells the story of Venetian master painter Titian, who lived from about 1488 to 1576. Born into a family already established in the arts for three generations, Titian showed such talent as a boy that he was apprenticed at around the age of 9 to Gentile and then Giovanni Bellini, two of the most famous painters of the period. Around his early twenties, Titian set up his own studio. Like his contemporaries, he painted devotional works, such as the famous "Assumption of the Virgin," still found in Venice's Accademia Gallery, and mythological paintings, now in galleries and private collections around the world. He enjoyed the patronage of the powerful, from the popes in Rome to Charles V, who, according to legend, once stooped to pick up Titian's brush, saying, "Titian, even emperors serve you." The author's lively text, accompanied by illustrations of Titian's work, captures the life and times of one of the most significant artists of the Italian Renaissance.
