Was die „abhandlung über die Empfindungen er strebt, sagt Condillac bestimmter als in der an die Gräfin de Vasse gerichteten Vorrede (die, weil sie grösstentheils Persönliches enthält, unübersetzt bleiben konnte), m e1nem kurzen Auszüge, den er der letzten von ihm besorgten Ausgabe beigefügt hat: „der Hauptzweck die ses Werkes ist der, zu zeigen, wie alle unsere Erkenntnisse und alle unsere Fähigkeiten aus den Sinnen stammen, oder, genauer zu reden, aus den Empfindungen; denn in Wahrheit sind die Sinne nur Veranlassung. Sie empfinden nicht, sondern allein die Seele empfindet auf Veranlassung der Organe, und aus den Empfindungen durch welche ihr Zustand sich ändert, gewinnt sie alle ihre Erkennt nisse und Fähigkeiten.
