D'autres expériences ont eu pour objet de déterminer s'il y aurait avantage à faire un agrandissement direct sur la lunette, au lieu de se homer à amplifier les épreuves focales. Jusqu'à présent, les dispositions mécaniques adoptées n'ont pas permis de guider le grand équatorial coudé avec une régularité complète pendant le temps exigé pour l'exécution d'un agrandissement direct. Il serait toutefois pré maturé de condamner sans appel ce procédé qui a donné, comme l'on sait, des résultats remarquables entre les mains de MM. Paul et Prosper Henry.
