Excerpt from Extracts From the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Reports of the Directors of the African Institution: Read at Their Annual General Meetings, Held in London on the 11th Day of May, 1824, and on the 13th Day of May, 1825
The African Institution in London, merits the approbation of all who wish the extinction of the slave-trade. Such a body of evidence, as is exhibited in their annual reports could not be procured, nor would the world be possessed of a just esti mate of the incredible extent, and 'manifold cruelties of the slave-trade, without the unwearied labours of such an associa tion. Interested as we are in the general subject, the publi cation of abstracts of their eighteenth and nineteenth reports, will, we would hope, kindle and spread renewed zeal in be half of this injured people, and thus contribute in some small degree, to urge forward the work of their complete emancipa tion from the cruel grasp of the merciless trader.
