For DIARY OF AN AFFAIR, Jeannie Sakol uses an exciting cinematic approach. Reliving her own personal experience, she tells the story in a dramatic series of individual “scenes”. Each is told from the separate viewpoints of newly divorced Liza and devoted husband Dan from the moment they first see each other jogging in the park and realize “something has happened”. Scene after scene reveals how each reacts to the volcanic turmoil of the affair. The emotional wreckage. The decisions to call it quits. The break-ups and passionate reconciliations.
Who do we blame for prolonging the agony? Is the final resolution fair to both Liza and Dan?
Reviewer Comment: “An intimate chronicle of the human heart revealed in honest and touching detail.”

For Jeannie Sakol (aka Claudia Crawford) life is a four star movie. A continuing adventure in which all the cinema basics apply. Plots thicken and scenes change. Chance meetings abound. Strangers save the day. Friends prove false. Fame beckons. Fortunes reverse. As for true love, as she herself confesses, “When Prince Charming rang my doorbell, I was in the shower and didn’t hear it!”
From earliest childhood, her experiences have morphed into a lifetime scenario with herself in the starring role as an unrepentant romantic forever convinced that everything would work out in the end.
Most of the time, it has. As a writer, her celebrity interviews have ranged from Marilyn Monroe on location in London to Prince Rainer on the eve of his marriage to Grace, to Elizabeth Taylor at home, Johnny Cash backstage at the Ryman and over 100 more. As an international contributor to women’s magazines, including Cosmopolitan, she made history in the 1980’s with “breakthrough” articles on such then hush-hush subjects as female orgasm, cosmetic surgery (i.e. “I Was Never The Princess” and – a visit to a male brothel!
When happily married Dan and dedicated career woman Liza literally run into each other jogging in Central Park, it's instant lust, followed by talk of love and marriage. But there are complications, notably Dan's women (near-perfect ex-model wife, Maggie; beautiful daughters Jennifer and Sandi; and crusty travel business partner, Sonia) and burgeoning model agency Liza Central, which consumes its founder's time and energy. The affair is on-again, off-again, because of Dan's second thoughts, Jennifer's emergency appendectomy, Liza's second thoughts, Maggie's near breakdown . . . . With its New York flavor and energy, amplified by the story's being told by multiple voices from all points of view, this is a guilty pleasure of a book; you finish it because you can't stop, then forget how it ended hours later.
