Curtis, now retired from the British Diplomatic Service, was appointed Ambassador in Moscow in 1978. He tells of Britain's dealings with Russia during the course of the 20th century, which colored much of Britain's foreign policy. He begins with the Lloyd George War Cabinet's perplexity over responding to the Bolshevik revolution in 1917, discusses the decades of policy debates, and considers the perplexity of the government over responding to the collapse of the revolution in 1989. The first edition, Britain and the Soviet Union, 1917-89 was published in 1990. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
