Dr Robert Vanderplank is the Director of the Oxford University Language Centre. He studied Modern Languages at the University of Kent and obtained his Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics at Edinburgh University. He has also taught at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England and Helsinki University, Finland.
