Paperback. Condizione: Good. 1848 ? Year of Revolution by Mike Rapport (Abacus, 2014) As sold by Crappy Old Books Europe, 1848: a tinderbox of restless cities, hungry workers, radical thinkers, and collapsing empires. In 1848 ? Year of Revolution , historian Mike Rapport brings to life the roaring chaos of a continent in upheaval. From the barricades of Paris to the ferment in Vienna, from the dreams of democracy in Frankfurt to the flames of rebellion in Budapest, this gripping narrative lays bare a year that promised everything?and delivered a brutal lesson in power and resistance. Rapport?s sweeping, richly detailed account captures the idealism, bloodshed, and betrayals of a time when revolutionaries briefly dared to rewrite history. It?s part political thriller, part cautionary tale?perfect for lovers of history who like their revolutions grand and their optimism thoroughly crushed. A bit dog-eared, slightly musty, and possibly harbouring the ghost of a forgotten bookmark, our Crappy Old Books copy comes with all the charm of a book that?s lived through a few revolutions of its own. Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. In 1848, Europe was engulfed in a firestorm of revolution. The streets of cities from Paris to Bucharest and from Berlin to Palermo were barricaded and flooded by armed insurgents proclaiming political liberties and national freedom. The conservative order which had held sway since the fall of Napoleon in 1815 crumbled beneath the revolutionary assault. This book narrates the breathtaking events which overtook Europe in 1848, tracing brilliantly their course from the exhilaration of the liberal triumph, through the fear of social chaos to the final despair of defeat and disillusionment. The failures of 1848 would scar European history with the contradictions of authoritarianism and revolution until deep into the twentieth century. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. Codice articolo GOR001956847
