Los jesuitas, entonces nacientes, se lanzan a la pelea con toda_la actividad que podia inspirar la ambicion de adquirir la preponderancia en la igle sia, y envanecidos de su éxito y de la sutileza de su metafísica, no solo combaten Lutero y Calvino, sino que tambien intentan establecer otra nueva. Escuela contra los inventando la ciencia medi: ó de los luturos condicionales, especie par ticu r de prevision por la cual habiendo visto Dios,lo*que no será, pero que seria, si tal 6 cual cosa - sucediera, se concede al hombre la gracia su ficiente y habitual para obrar. Mas este sistema de Molina, sustituye a la dificultad, otra mayor fun dando la presciencia sobre una conexion entre la condiccion y la accion que coharta todo el ejercí cio de la libertad. Suarez no es mas feliz querien do esplicar los efectos de la gracia, por medio del ¿cºncurso de Dios y del hombre. Los jesuitas sin embargo, producían esta doctrina con tal confianza y con tal menospecio de los demas teólogos, que luego se grangearon una infinidad de enemigos. Las disputas con los dominicos se animaron de tal suerte, que la Santa - Sede hubo de intervenir, permitiendo á los rivales las solemnes asambleas conocidas con el nombre de congregaciones 'de eu xíl£s _que con el silencio de Roma no hicieron sino, encarnizar mas y mas a los opuestos bandos reforzándose los unos con las universidades, y los otros con sus adeptos.
