Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. 2nd printing of this 1975 hardcover edition - originally published 1964 in soft cover, toning, soiling and very light foxing to edges of text block with a faint splash stain to upper fore-edge - front board a little bowed - spine not square - a former owners bookplate, address sticker and inked initials to front paste-down, dj now enclosed in mylar wrap shows edge wear, scuffing to folds and fading to spine - 5/8" wide x 5/8" deep piece missing to top left edge with 5/8" wide x 3/8" deep piece missing to bottom right edge of front panel - 3/4" wide x 7/16" deep piece missing with associated 1" tear to top right edge with a small chip to bottom right edge of rear panel - scuffing with 1/2" tear to top of fold rear panel to flap - 1" wide x 7/8" deep piece missing with scuffing to bottom edge of spine - 1/2" and 1" tears to top with 1/2" tear to bottom of fold front panel to flap - 1/8" and 3/16" tears to top left edge of front flap, original price intact. Book #1 in what would become a 21-book series featuring Travis McGee, the tough war veteran, ex-football player, & ladies man who works as a salvage consultant & takes on cases like a private investigator from his base of operations on a houseboat in Florida. Orig. published as a paperback original (PBO) in 1964, this is the First Hardcover Edition, first printing, from 1975. Quarter blue cloth-wrapped spine, blue paper over remaining boards, gilt lettering to spine. 200 pages. Condition is VG+, downgraded due to old tap residue to both front & rear endpapers from where DJ was affixed to book. It is an Ex-Lib copy, but with only 1 small stamp on title page indicating such & what looks to be a removed card pocket from rear free endpaper. Else, very bright & clean, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white; no foxing. NO writing or underlining or highlighting. The clipped DJ (appearing slightly shorter than the book, typical for this title) is VG: very bright & colorful, with no fading, but slight color loss & to heel of spine; nicely protected in new mylar cover free! The jacket has minimal wear along the extremities, a couple of small nicks at spine head, but does not display any of the typical spine fading associated with most copies. The First Travis McGee Title. An unusually difficult title. Travis McGee is a self-described beach bum who won his houseboat in a card game. He s also a knight-errant who s wary of credit cards, retirement benefits, political parties, mortgages, and television. He only works when his cash runs out, and his rule is simple: He ll help you find whatever was taken from you, as long as he can keep half. McGee isn t particularly strapped for cash, but how can anyone say no to Cathy, a sweet backwoods girl who s been tortured repeatedly by her manipulative ex-boyfriend Junior Allen? What Travis isn t anticipating is just how many women Junior has torn apart and left in his wake. Enter Junior s latest victim, Lois Atkinson.
