'...student researchers will appreciate the abundant attention accorded notables such as Maxine Hong Kingston, Amy Tan, Chang-rae Lee, Jessica Hagedorn, Jhumpa Lahiri, and others.  There are helpful, individual, hyphenated-ethnic literary group assessments, including an informative study of Asian Canadian literature by Donald Goellnicht and Eleanor Ty.  Mark Chiang’s “Cultural Capital,” one of the strongest essays, considers the embrace of successful authors such as Lahiri and Lee by mainstream American fiction readers and the prickly range of criticism in turn.'

Rachel C. Lee is Associate Professor of English and Associate Director of the Center for the Study of Women at UCLA. She specialises in Asian American literature, performance culture and studies of gender and sexuality, and is the author of The Americas of Asian American Literature: Gendered Fictions of Nation and Transnation (Princeton University Press, 1999), and lead editor of the volume Asian America.Net: Ethnicity, Nationalism, and Cyberspace (Routledge, 2003)
