Grade 6-9-- On the day of a festive parade in her Florida hometown, 16-year-old Emily Petty notices two strange things: an older woman watching her and a girl who is Emily's mirror image disappearing and then reappearing. However, Emily's mother and twin sister had been killed in an auto accident years ago. Or had they? The suspense of this well-written hi/lo is sustained throughout the story; major and minor characters are believable, and, without slipping into melodrama, the twin themes of the destructiveness of divorce and the tragedy of ethnic mistrust and misunderstanding are well developed. Teens everywhere will gain useful knowledge of life's sorrows and complexities when they read Red Hair.
