The story is semi-autobiographical, and draws on her experience as a teacher in Brussels as a young woman. Also with two chapters from author's "Emma", her unfinished novel, which is preceded by an introduction by William Makepeace Thackeay entitled "The Last Sketch." With an introduction by Margaret Lane. --- In EL larger format binding style 4. Full green cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped spine titling and gilt interlocked "EL" in script at tail of spine.
