Recensione:
"It requires enormous confidence in a subject, combined with shrewd judgement about what is important, to write a textbook that adequately covers the fundamentals and at the same time is thoroughly up to date. But this is what Stephen Elliott has achieved in The Physics and Chemistry of Solids. He has combined undergraduate accounts of condensed matter physics, solid–state chemistry and basic materials science to produce a masterly account of the formation, structure and properties of materials....The whole textbook is a magnificent achievement and promises to become a classic." – Andrew Briggs, Reader in materials, University of Oxford, Times Higher Education Supplement, March 1999
"..this is a well–structured, very thorough book that covers all important fundamentals of solid materials. The melding of different topics has resulted in a remarkable textbook without any significant discontinuity." – Mark Burghard, , Advanced Materials, Vol. 11, No. 15, 1999
"..we can all put our books on solid state science back on the shelf and leave only Elliott′s book on the desk within reach. This enjoyable masterwork is intelligently written, ultramodern and covers all there is to know about the solid state..I predict this groundbreaking text will quickly become a classic." – Dr Barend Thijsse, Delft University of Technology
"A superb text.. right up to date. It bridges the gap between physical chemistry and physics in a natural, fluid manner...a major text... simply tremendous." – Gerald O′Sullivan, , Associate Professor, Department of Experimental Physics, University College, Dublin ,
