Examines various designs for T-shirts and the materials and techniques necessary for creating them.
Grade 3-4-- The end products in these craft books are not very glamorous, and most can be found in other books. There is little text; the ideas can be completed by looking at the pictures. Illustrations and layout are simple, but sometimes clumsy, with words on top of the illustrations, and the materials needed to complete each project are scattered throughout the directions rather than listed at the beginning. The books are slight, with only about 15 crafts in each. Most of the activities require things that must be purchased from craft stores and elsewhere. Construction is generally with simple tools such as scissors, glue, and a stapler, although a utility knife is used with some of the crafts. For face painting, Suzanne Haldane's Face Painting (Dutton, 1988) is far better, and uses actual photographs of painted faces. --Denise Krell, New York Public Library
