9780534504267: Communication in Our Lives (Wadsworth Series in Communication Studies)

This text responds to current content and discipline issues by being rooted in communication scholarship and by addressing and integrating issues of social diversity. The book provides a theoretically unified and pragmatically oriented approach to human communication (i.e., a good balance of theory and skills); it consistently integrates issues of social diversity into both theoretical foundations and discussions of skills and particular communication contexts. The text provides students with an understanding of theory by showing them how they can apply communication to their own lives.

Review:

"The CD-ROM and accompanying resources are outstanding...What makes this book different from others is that it covers the fundamentals of so many areas of communication very well, neither overwhelming nor insulting the intelligence of the average student."

"An excellent text for the hybrid communication course. Wood's personalized writing style and attempt to connect with the reader is unique in a college textbook."

"Wood's Communication in Our Lives is wonderful.... The language is conscious of and sensitive to social communities ....the photos reflect multiculturalism.... its examples/excerpts reflect students' experiences and views."

"Julia Wood provides a conversation approach to communication. She discusses the principles and concerns we face and provides excellent skills and experiences for us to follow. Whether we are meeting someone for the first time, engaged in group situations or conducting a presentation for our colleagues, this book gives you insight and the confidence to handle any communication situation."
