It will be different this time. That's what Marvin Matthews assures himself as he arrives in Japan for a second go. His first tenure didn't go well. Stuck in a thankless job teaching English at a conversation school, surrounded by ungrateful students he was merely trying to help better themselves (by pointing out the many flaws in their culture), the experience was, in fact, a nightmare. But this time, it'll be better. Rather than a conversation school, he'll be on the government program as an AET (assistant English teacher). It's reportedly a dream job, one requiring no effort on his part. Being back in Japan will also allow him to again pursue the beautiful women of the country, who will surely be more receptive to his charms than they were during his previous stay. Yes, Marvin is truly going to enjoy himself. Sadly, however, he discovers that reality has an irritating tendency of interfering with one's grand plans, and matters don't always proceed quite as smoothly as expected.
