Cover Art: Uncredited (illustratore). 1st UK Edition. © 1982: 3rd in the 'Valis' series of books. 1st UK edition, 1st printing:- Synopsis: Loosely based on the life of James Pike, the late Episcopalian Bishop of California, 'The Transmigration Of Timothy Archer' is a compassionate, funny, intellectual and eccentric novel which should make a wider audience aware of why Philip Dick was widely regarded as the world's leading contemporary sf writer. The novel pivots around four characters. Bishop Timothy Archer, an ex-alcoholic and one-time lawyer, is now America's most charismatic church leader. He seeks belief through reason and pursues it with such single-minded diligence that nothing can stand in his way - not the church, nor the wellbeing of his family, nor even his own sanity. His son Jeff and mistress Kirsten Lundborg are both left floundering in his wake, and both eventually commit suicide. Jeff's wife Angel Archer, the novel's narrator, must come to terms with the decline and death of the three people closest to her. Philip K Dick wrote such novels as 'The Man In The High Castle' and 'A Scanner Darkly' He died suddenly in March 1982 while this book was in preparation:- (original cost £6.95).
