WHEN NIGHT-TIME BECOMES A NIGHTMARE
At the turn of the century Charlotte Metcalf is a child of good fortune: a prosperous father, a loving mother, a loved brother – all cocoon her against the outside world. With her father's death she is plunged into poverty: the workhouse is her miserable home, servitude her lot.
Charlotte's escape in search of her lost brother brings her to Barras Hall, home of unknown relations, where fine clothes, fine food, the warmth of wealth would seem to promise all she could desire.
But in the night the horror begins – a horror of sound and sense, surpassing all earthly horror. And Charlotte must fulfil her destiny.
A tale of hellish terror to be read as twilight falls and the shadows gather...
“The best ghost story of recent years and one which, with its Lovecraftian undertones, should ultimately be ranked among the greats”
INTERZONE
“Aycliffe conjures a feeling of dread that deepens with each unsettling incident; read it alone and you'll soon be checking over your shoulder”
TIME OUT
“It all proceeds with voluptuous deliberation to a wild cleansing finale”
