The 112th Field Artillery Regiment (Horse-Drawn) was a New Jersey Army National Guard unit called into active military service in January of 1941. Following his year with the horses, John Eberhardt rejoined the 112th as a battery commander. He then went to Camp Maxey, Texas, serving in the 250th as battery commander and S?3. He served briefly as the battalion executive officer and commander. He participated with this battalion in five European campaigns.
